We turned in our updated draft of the database and they liked how it looked. They said it would help them a lot because before they just had a word document and it made it a lot harder to search for specific interpreters and translators when someone would call in and asked for one. At first, I didn't think this project would be that big of a deal, but seeing now how much the database improves their efficiency in finding the right interpreters and translators for patients, it made me feel like I helped out a lot. Now all that's left is the presentation and giving our final thoughts. I'm looking forward to it.

10/26/2016 At this point my diabetes project is complete. I sent the completed version of my project to my supervisor Dr. Williams to take a look and let me know if that is what she wants. She replied and said she is happy with the work we did and the project looks nice to her. All we need to do now is to put together a final presentation, that will be presented on Thursday November 3, 2016. Looking forward to finally do my presentation and share my experience during my visits to Park Center. Noah 10/ 21/2016
I met with my supervisor today so we can talk about my project and how she would want the final project to look like. I had sent her a tentative copy of the project I am working on for her to take a look and give me her feedback. She pointed out somethings she wants me to change especially the MOA of these drugs to try to explain the MOA in a more patient friendly language cognizant of the patient population they serve. Noah My project for this class was not as challenging or complex as others, but in the end I do appreciate the project that was given to me as it does help the vulnerable population as a whole in the end. It did just feel like phone call after phone call at first, but knowing the bigger picture of how the word of Matthew 25 would be spread is what makes me happy to have done so. I am glad I was introduced to this organization and I appreciate all the work they do for this community. Ian was happy with the spreadsheets I made after all the phone calls, he can easily see who needs to be sent information kits and who was more interested than others. There was one county that was very enthusiastic and wanted to schedule for us to go talk to them personally, scheduling did not allow us to do so prior to the end of this class but I told Ian I would still be happy to do so in the coming week or two.
Before coming into this class I was aware of the vulnerable patient population but did not fully recognize ways to treat them. This class really opened my eyes as we discussed certain topics such as adherence, children and elderly patients, immigrants, and many others. I became more aware of how to treat patients and think before talking to these patients. It is easy to assume based on your conscious or unconscious biases, but this class showed me how to look past those and assess the situation before making an assumption. I work in a vulnerable part of town and see many of these scenarios on the regular basis but even then I believe that no one will ever be perfect in treating these patients. I believe awareness and patience is what will make you a great provider in the end. -Fernie |
