Apparently, I cannot draw Venn diagrams.
I have come to this discovery because I find myself having to draw them more frequently as of late. Many aspects of our lives overlap and intersect in many expected and unexpected ways. Take for example last week's discussion about community.
What is community? How do you define it? Geographically? Emotionally? Spiritually? There are lots of ways in which we define and identify with "community"
"Is healthcare a community?" Dr. Hanson drops this little bit of a brain teaser. Well, yes. Healthcare providers share some common characteristics, cause and identity.
Then Dr. Hanson drops this brain buster "Are healthcare providers part of the community they serve?"
Yes? No?Maybe?
What do you think?
If you say yes, then how so and in what way? For example, I am a healthcare provider in my hometown so yes, I am a member of the community I serve.
If you say no, then why not? and should you integrate yourself with the community you serve? For example, No I am not, I have a much higher education and hence do not consider myself part of the community.
More questions and many varying answers and my hope is you realize how best you can identify with your patients.
