As I am reading the syllabus in regards of what we are to blog about this week, I am thinking to myself that it is possible last week I gave a tad bit more than a brief description of the Park Center. To be more specific, the Park Center has 22 locations in 3 counties which included a variety of services. The types of services offered are as follows; inpatient care: inpatient unit, transitional care, priority (emergency) clinic, hospital liaison (works with state and local cases), & court liaison; child and adult services: DMHA-approved access site (resources), outpatient services (therapy), psychological testing, home based services, in school skills programs, three wishes program, child and adolescent residential sexual health programs, adult and child counseling; adult services: intensive support (quality of life), low intensity (mental illness), residential services (group homes), community housing, homeless housing, rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, and employment resources. Many of the patients seen at the Park Center are on Medicaid, Medicare, or are low income/poverty or homeless. If there are any questions about any of the services offered please feel free to comment below!! :)

I have learned so much from going to United Way of Allen County. People who are in an underserved or vulnerable population use United Way of Allen County and 211 Help Center. United Way of Allen County does not just help the homeless, they help people who have homes but are struggling to pay bills or people that are just making it by struggling. The 211 Help Center is a phone number that you can call when you are in a crisis. People call when they are being abused and need to get out of their homes. Suicide calls do occur but not as often as abuse. There are about 8 211 Help Center's in Indiana. The one in the Fort Wayne location closes at 5 pm but the one in Indianapolis is open 24/7. So when people call the Fort Wayne location, their phone calls automatically get sent to the Indianapolis location. I will be researching data about the Allen County population and conducting a research for United Way of Allen County to have. There are six sections that will be covered in my research which are Diversity/Inclusion, Safety, Health/Wellness, Education (Early education and Youth), Financial Stability and Basic Needs. I will be working on three out of six of these which are Diversity/Inclusion, Safety, Health/Wellness. My classmate/partner will be researching the other three topics. I will have to go through a Communication training so that I can attend public meetings and ask the public their opinions on the community. I will also be reaching out to other sources such as the Police Department of Fort Wayne to find out the Safety data of Allen County. I am very excited to be working on this because its interesting to know how the community is while you are living it.
-Mehvish Elahi Today is my first day visiting United Way of Allen County and learning about our project. United Way of Allen County has been working on gathering data from various groups of people in the community regarding to how they want the community to be liked and what major problems that seemed concerning. From the data gathered, they divided the data into 6 major themes: education, basic needs, financial stability, safety, diversity/inclusion, and health/wellness. The next step then is to compare these "public knowledge" data as they called it with the "expert data" from researchers. This is where my partner and my role come in. In general, our project (Mehvish and I) focused on gathering data from the "expert data" in these 6 themes to analyze how concerning these themes are. Using the result from our project, United Way of Allen County might be able to narrow down one big theme that they can focus on. With that said, we splitted the 6 themes between 2 of us. I will be working on gathering data for themes in education, basic needs, and financial stability. I am very exciting and curious of what type of data I will find. I am also very curious of how these data from research compared to the "public knowledge" data. I look forward to our project and hopefully we can help the organization with our findings!
--Dinh This semester, I have chosen to go to park center once a week to work on projects that will serve the underserved population, particularly the psych population. I had the opportunity to meet yesterday with Dr. Richard Hite who is the Vice President of Adult Community Services with the organization and Dr. Doris Williams the primary care physician, who will be supervising my project. I am looking forward to work with them and explore avenues to improve on the lives of those we serve.
NOAH OBEN My expectation for this course is to learn what tools I need to know that will enable me to serve the community well so that I can practice well in future. I hope St Joseph community health foundation will be a place where I can gain knowledge.
