I have found my research based on Diversity/Inclusion and Safety. The last topic I need to research on is Health Awareness which I asked Ruthie and Tiffany on resources I can use so they will find out and inform me. I will be combining my information and Dihn's information on the United Way of Allen County to form a Powerpoint Presentation. Researching my three topics really helped me open my eyes towards the poverty and difference people really need in their lives. We will both be presenting on a background of United Way of Allen County, what they are and how they make their difference in peoples lives. After that as an introduction I will be presenting on my three topics which are Diversity/Inclusion, Safety, Health Awareness. then Dihn will be presenting on Financial Stability, Education and Basic Need's.

Caring for a homeless patient can be difficult because they face many challenges. They can have addiction issues with drugs and/or alcohol. Majority of the homeless struggle with mental health issues which can be a factor to why they are homeless. It may be hard for them to keep a job when they have mental health issues that aren't being dealt with professionally. Psychiatric illness also plays a huge role in the homeless because homeless people have diseases. A disease can be a drug and alcohol addiction. Many people think that drug and alcohol addiction is a crime but its a mental illness. They try it once, and they are addicted to it which to me is defined as a disease. Going through a difficult time in their lives or having a mental illness is what leads them to wanting to try drugs and over abusing alcohol. I believe that we as Health care Professionals should address this issue as a mental illness and not a crime because we want to help them get better and live a productive life. They need help to cope with their addiction and they don't always get the proper treatment. United Way of Allen County asks the community what they wish they can see change. Many of the conversations I have read do say to make the environment feel more safer and also they don't want to see homeless people sleeping on cardboards and benches. United Way of Allen County wants to make Allen County a place that's safe, diverse, smart, fun and educational.
- Mehvish Elahi I would like to share this video about mental ill by Dr Saks who had lived with schizophrenia and has written about her experience . Ahmed Every individual faces many different challenges in their life. Some of these challenges can be overcome easier than others. But all challenges can definitely be overcome. As I was researching data for my project, there are a large percentages of households either suffering from poverty or barely make enough income. Many of these households got affected by Great Depression. These people face huge challenges everyday as they think about finding food and surviving. However, they still trying to live and overcome these problems these everyday. It really amazed me and motivated me to really value what I have and what I can do. It also makes me have more empathy toward others as I might not know what challenges they are facing.
All challenges can be overcome, yet only if the root problem is solved. These families suffering from the poor can get help from organizations, apply for food stamps, etc. But how long can they live and how much help can they actually get. It come down to why are they poor in the first place, or why are they facing the problems they have? I believe in that challenges or problems happen because there is something wrong somewhere. Finding what and where is wrong is the key to overcome challenges. --Dinh Ha I have learned at my site not only with experience with patients but also with working on my project that as pharmacists we will face many challenges and we must know how to overcome them. While working on my project I was really struggling to find patient education that looked nice and also was simple. Everything I was finding was very cut and dry or just too difficult or lengthy for a patient to read. Very few patient handouts were suitable for a vulnerable patient population that is also health illiterate, but the ones that were had high fees associated with them. To overcome this challenge I just stayed persistent in finding something that would work and work well for what Dr. Williams asked me to do. At the Park Center, every patient imposes a new challenge because every patient is so unique. Many of them have multiple psychiatric disorders along with several non-psych disorders/disease states. Along with multiple disorders that need addressed, many patients have failed treatment and have other factors affecting a treatment plan (money, housing, drugs, etc.). What I have learned is that there is not one way to do something for a patient, but that the right way to do something will be specific for that patient in order to overcome the challenge that may be occurring.
