“The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation, sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, exists to steward resources that strengthen, improve, and sustain long-term community health in Allen County, Indiana. We invest in and collaborate with other community agencies to improve the physical, mental, and spiritual health of the poor and underserved.”
The St. Joseph Community Health Foundation focuses on community outreach in Allen County. They make frequent visits to the sites that they help fund and they also work alongside those sites to help improve access to health care and advocate for the health and well-being of Allen County’s poor and most vulnerable.
They have a few core values that they try to center their foundation around:
Openness to the Spirit: We believe in responding to the needs of the time.
Community: We believe in attentive listening and courageous response.
Simplicity: We believe in the wise use and care for all resources.
Dignity and Respect for All: We believe human life is sacred throughout all stages of existence, from conception to death.
We believe each person deserves respect and affirmation regardless of race, creed, sex, age, sexual orientation, status, or ability. We believe each person has rights and responsibilities and must be respected and treated fairly.
They believe strongly in their mission and values. When I visited for my first time, Meg, who I met with, kept emphasizing the mission to me over and over. This foundation is more faith centered than I originally thought, which isn't a bad thing at all. It was just not something I expected.
